Tony Hawk – early life and interest in skating
Tony grew up in San Diego, California. As a child, he was extremely hyperactive but sports activities were not the good area for him. He didn’t like baseball and many other sports. His parents were surprised when they found his IQ is 144 – Tony Hawk was a gifted kid. Since his parents didn’t know to deal with his excessive energy, they had no choice but to support his skateboarding dreams. As his skills developed, he became professional skateboarder at the age of 14. He was a champion for twelve consecutive years and there are very small chances anyone will ever be able to change this record.

Tony Hawk started with competitions in 1983, when he was only 14 years old. This is one of the earliest appearances in any skateboarding event. Tony was an undefeated champion from 1983 to 1995, and that is the record nobody was ever able to crush. Tony is also the first skateboarder who was able to land a 900. Even at the age of 48, Tony is still a world class skater who can perform excellent tricks and who doesn’t afraid of falling. He said this was his final 900, the trick which raised him so high.

He continued his winning streak – three competitions in 1987, four in 1988 (mini ramp event for the first time), four in 1989 (a street event for the first time), four in 1990. And for the first time, Tony won the event which was held outside of the USA – one event in Germany and one event in France.
During the year 1992, Tony won five competitions, but “only” 2 during 1993. However, in 1993 Tony won the World Championship, which was the most important competition then.
In 1995, he won two competitions, and also one of them was the World Championships. He was a world number 1 for a very long period of time. In 1996 he was a winner on one competition.
In 1997, Tony Hawk started competing in doubles, where he shew a lot of success with Andy McDonald and Brian Howard. He won the World Cup and the World Championships in 1998 – two most important competitions.
The last golden year for Tony Hawk was 1999 when he won impressive five competitions. He won two titles for best trick during the year 1999.

Tony Hawk’s movie career started from the year 2002 when he started to appear fewer in competitions. He acted himself for the first time in Australian skateboarding movie – Deck Dogz. Tony appeared in all three seasons of Jackass (2002, 2006, 2010), where he rode the skateboard in a fat suit through an obstacle course.

His first marriage lasted three years with Cindy Dunbar. She was his girlfriend from the high school. They got son Ryan, who is also a professional skateboarder, but the couple divorced in 1993. Despite the couple is divorced, Tony is in good relations with his son. He even helped him find sponsors – Lakai Limited Footwear and Baker Skateboards.
Tony Hawk’s second marriage was with Erin Lee in 1996, and they have two sons – Spencer and Keegan. The couple divorced in 2003.
His third marriage was with Lhotse Merriam, whom he met on Fiji islands. He also has a son with her, named Kadence Clover. The couple divorced in 2011.
