Surf and Yoga Holidays: Urban Surfer’s Top Picks Across Europe

Surfing and yoga complement each other brilliantly, on both a physical and a mental level. Many top surfers have started practicing yoga in order to help their breathing, to assist in their concentration and to keep themselves physically fit. With the advent of SUP Yoga there is also an increasing number of yogis who have been drawn to try surfing.

As big fans of both surfing and yoga at Urban Surfer we have rounded up a list of our favourite spots across Europe for the ultimate yoga and surfing holiday. Whether you are travelling solo or with a group, novice to pro, we have the perfect retreats for you.

The Local Options

Drift Retreats, Jersey

Drift Retreats are hosted on the west coast of Jersey in the Channel Islands. Guests stay in a magical, historic Tower renovated with all the mod-cons, located within the Jersey National Park. Wake up to yoga each morning, surf sessions every day and explore the nature and wild life on your doorstep with five miles of pristine beach and Jersey National Trust’s Wetland Centre nearby. There are also numerous additional activities available. Guests can choose make their retreat as action-packed or as relaxed as they wish. Drift Retreat serve vegetarian food. Gluten-free, dairy free and raw meal plans are also available upon request.

 Hot Yoga in Newquay

Ocean Flo Yoga bring you a weekend of hot yoga, surfing and nutritious food. You will come away from the retreat feeling vibrant and alive having alternated between sweating it out in the hot room and plunging into the Atlantic Ocean to catch some waves. In addition to hot and Yin classes, Ocean Flow hold a Surf Yoga class. The class is surf specific, aimed at yoga postures that will help you stay balanced on your board in the surf lesson which follows.

Karma Surf Retreat, Portugal

Karma Surf Retreat offer yoga with surfing, in addition to packages for climbing, mountain biking and stand-up paddleboarding as well. They offer 5 day packages, each day you will have a 2 hour surfing lesson and 2×1 hour yoga classes. They offer different Yoga styles so you will have a lasting Yoga experience and enjoy new inspiration for your daily Yoga training at home. The yoga instructors here also surf, so they know exactly which exercises will prepare you for the day ahead.

Surf Gran Canaria, Canary Islands

This surf and yoga holiday offers personal surf coaching, ocean facing apartments and two daily yoga sessions. These holidays are fantastic for beginners. You will be taught the basics of how to read the waves, and how to stand up on your board. For more advanced surfers you can book onto surf guide sessions instead.

The Egg AcroYoga and Surf Camp, Ikaria, Greece 

The Egg offer AcroYoga and Surf camps surrounded by beautiful nature of Ikaria, Greece. By combining these two practices, you will gain flexibility, strength, and awareness, getting your body ready to connect with nature. Surfsistas Surf and Yoga

Surfsistas host their Surf and Yoga retreats in South West France in a beautiful modern villa with a pool 300m from the beach in Labenne Ocean. Each day the Surf Sistas team will help you to get the most out of your surf time. They have multiple vehicles and coaches and can accommodate surfers of all ability levels. Their boutique surf villa, just a few minutes’ walk from the beach, is the perfect place to relax after a day of surfing and each day the Yoga sessions will help to both prepare for and then stretch out after surfing.
