Kelly Slater breezed to his 50th ASP Win at the place where it all began for him in Trestles, San Diego. This is definitely one of Kelly’s dominant spots over the years as he registers his third Trestles win on the bounce.
Kelly overcame the inform Joel “Parko” Parkinson by attacking the shorter waves and riding them with perfect style and control. Parko never really picked up the same form that he did in the previous heats and never found “that” wave for him to shred, thus allowing Kelly to take his landmark victory with relative ease.
Parko’s inability to take advantage of the smaller waves was his eventual downfall, standing up on only 4 waves compared to Slater’s 9.
Both Parko and Slater made it through their Semi Final heats with aplomb, easily dispatching both tour leader, Mick Fanning and the best South American surfer right now, Adriano De Souza.
